Enhance safety and mobility options as outlined in the city’s Moving Together Towards Vision Zero
Why is this project being done?
To align with the city's Moving Together Towards Vision Zero goals by:
- Focusing transportation investments on corridors and intersections with the most serious crashes.
- Installing at least three quick-build safety projects per year, prioritizing focus corridors and intersections.
- Building out a safe, comfortable network of bike routes for people of all ages and abilities.
What work will be done as apart of this project?
- Resurfacing of Zina Pitcher Place (Huron Street to Catherine Street), Catherine Street (Glen Street to Zina Pitcher Place), and East Ann Street (Zina Pitcher Place to Observatory Street) corridors.
- Enhancements of pedestrian and bicycle safety.
What outcomes will result from the Project?
- ‘Ride quality’ will improve for drivers and bicycle users.
- Drainage will be improved along the corridors, with special attention given to the Observatory roundabout.
- Sidewalk ramps will be upgraded to meet ADA standards.
- A two-way cycle track will be provided on Catherine Street to separate cyclists from motorized traffic.
- Traffic signal infrastructure will be upgraded at the Zina Pitcher and Ann intersection.
Project funding sources
The project is funded by the City of Ann Arbor Storm Water Fund, and the City of Ann Arbor Act 51 Major Streets Fund
- Vehicular traffic delays will occur due to lane closures and detour routes. This page will be updated once details are finalized.
- On-street bicycle travel will be required to follow posted detours. This page will be updated once details are finalized.
- Pedestrian travel will be maintained through the work zone.

- High Injury Network Map -a map highlighting corridors and intersections with the most serious crashes.
- Ann Arbor DDA Development Plan - a required plan to establish the DDA's boundary and identify the future activities and projects the DDA will undertake to benefit the downtown area and the broader community.
- Downtown Area Circulation Study - a collaborative study between the Ann Arbor DDA and the City of Ann Arbor that informs priorities for future capital improvements to the downtown and near downtown streets.
