Project Overview

Improvements to the road surface on South Fifth Avenue from East William Street to East Madison Street will be made as well as the installation of the city's first contra flow bike lane.

Why is this project being done?

To improve the road surface for all.

What work is anticipated to be done?

  • Repair identified storm drains, concrete curb and upgrade concrete ramps to meet current American with Disability Act (ADA) Standards.
  • Utility work will be completed prior to the road being resurfacing on South Fifth Avenue between East Jefferson Street and Packard Street as part of the 2025 Miscellaneous Utilities Project.
  • The first contraflow bike lane in the city will be installed as part of the project

Funding sources

  • Street, Bridge, and Sidewalk Millage
  • The road will be fully closed to users throughout the duration of the project.
  • Parking will be removed in one block of South Fifth Avenue, on the east side, from Packard to Madison to accommodate the installation of the contraflow bike lane.
