Project Overview

Due to a history of water main breaks, the existing 8" water main, installed during the 1960's, will be replaced with a new 12" water main, which will also be rerouted further from buildings to improve water flow to surrounding properties.

Notifications will be sent to the public leading up to construction, which is set to take place in Summer 2025

Work to be done

The work includes replacement of major portions of the existing water main, and in some areas new alignment and tie-ins and transferring service leads to the new water main.

Costs and funding source

Ann Arbor water funds

Water interruptions

  • Generally, water service will be maintained with a few exceptions: (1) planned 6-8 hour interruptions when new mains are tied into existing ones which will be proceeded by notification by orange door hangers 24-hours prior, (2) brief 30 minute interruptions when services lines are transferred to the new main which will be preceded by 12-24 hour notice in person.
  • Contractor will do their best to not interrupt business operations, however this will be a case-by-case business. Impacted businesses will be contacted by the project team on this issue.

Past Work: We completed the watermain installation across Jackson Avenue. We will be working on installing the rest of the watermain in the back, working from north to south.

Current Work: Starting tomorrow(5/28), the north parking lot back entrance by Staples will be blocked temporary (most likely 3 days) while we install the water main in that area. See attached image here.

Due to the tight working space, we ask that ALL cars and any deliveries use the south entrance by the Westgate Library. Our site inspectors can help if there an issue with access to the back area, their contact info is below.
