The Ride 2045 Proposed Transit Priority Level

1A-1C: High Frequency Service

  • Strong concerns about pedestrian safety at crossings, particularly where vehicles do not yield or where signals are insufficient.
  • Comments that high vehicle speeds and wide roadway geometry contribute to discomfort and risks for people walking or people bicycling.
  • Respondents want targeted safety upgrades now: better and more pedestrian crossings, visibility improvements, and signal timing.

Segment 1A, between 7th Street and Main Street, is proposed for inclusion in the City's Capital Improvements Plan (CIP) for future design and construction. A2R2 findings will provide the starting direction for that project.

Corridor Recommendations

Safer crossings for pedestrians

Safer bicycle facilities

Reduced vehicle speeds

Expanding multimodal access

Current conditions

1C is on the High Injury Network; faster traffic is generally traveling about 37-40mph across the corridor, compared with a 25mph target, with the highest speeds in 1B. The corridor is also planned for a major, higher-comfort bicycle connection.

What this design achieves

Reducing outside through lanes can help reinforce lower speeds, remove passing opportunities, simplify crossings, and create space for separated bicycle facilities.

Future design will need to refine major intersections, crossing locations, driveway access, transit operations, and transitions between segment types.
