For A2R2, vehicle volumes and speeds were collected using standard pneumatic-tube traffic counters over seven consecutive days, September 17–23, 2025. This provided traffic information for every hour of the day, including five weekdays and two weekend days. U-M and Ann Arbor Public Schools were in session, there was no home football game during the collection period, and the roads were not directly affected by active construction. This provides a broader picture of traffic patterns than counts limited to the morning and afternoon rush hours.

The summary charts show how traffic demand varies throughout the day, allowing us to identify periods when traffic volumes may present challenges to changing the roadway configuration.

  • Corridor is perceived as functioning like a highway, with excessive speeds and wide lanes.
  • Bike lanes are inconsistent, unprotected, or end abruptly, forcing unsafe transitions.
  • Numerous serious injury crashes and fatalities that heighten urgency around speed management and protected facilities.
  • Divided opinions on road diets, but strong alignment on the need for safer crossings and continuous bike infrastructure.

Segment 7A is currently in design for safety, traffic-organization, bicycle facility, and signal improvements. Segment 7E near US-23 is planned for resurfacing in 2027. Following a recent Road Safety Audit, the project will reorganize existing lanes and use excess turn-lane space for a buffered bicycle lane while retaining existing through lanes. The City is also coordinating with MDOT on a pedestrian crossing at the US-23 ramp/Park & Ride signal.
