Project Overview
The opportunity was presented to evaluate Independence Blvd for speed management improvements as part of the scheduled resurfacing and sidewalk gap project scheduled this season.
Why is this project being done?
Speed management improvements are encouraged by Resolution 23-330.
Data was collected in 2024. The speeds were higher than desired for a street with existing devices installed. The existing devices were installed as part of the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program in 2011.
What considerations were taken in developing the Speed Management Plan?
- Proximity to a school.
- One of the primary access points to the neighborhood.
- Sight distance and proximity to the new crosswalks being included in the Sidewalk Gap Project
- Distance between devices to maximize speed reduction.
- Existing utility structures and fire hydrants.
- Road grade and geometry.
Work to be done
Raised devices will be installed along Independence Blvd between Packard and Manchester to reduce speeds as part of the Annual Street Resurfacing Program
