Project Overview

This project will complete pavement repairs on Gallup Park Road and replace portions of the Gallup Park Pathway near the Youth Fishing Pond.

June 18, 2026 Update:
  • Pavement repairs on Gallup Park Road are underway this week. While repairs were originally scheduled to be completed by Friday, June 19, yesterday’s inclement weather means the remaining repairs, including installation of the speed bumps, will be completed on Monday, June 22 (weather permitting).
  • Traffic will continue to be managed around the active road work zones. While all park amenities remain open, please look out for sporadic lane closures and temporary disruptions to the parking lots south of the Gallup Park Road bridge. The Youth Fishing Pond and nearby amenities will remain accessible at all times via the northern pathway bridge and the B2B Trail.

June 9, 2026 Update:
  • Work on the Gallup Park Pathway is complete. The pathway, pavilions, and nearby shelters are fully accessible to the public.
  • Pavement repairs on Gallup Park Road are scheduled to begin Monday, June 15, with completion expected by Friday, June 19 (weather permitting).
  • Traffic will be managed around the active road work zones. While all park amenities remain open, please look out for sporadic lane closures and temporary disruptions to the parking lots south of the Gallup Park Road bridge. The Youth Fishing Pond and nearby amenities will remain accessible at all times via the northern pathway bridge and the B2B Trail.

May 28, 2026 Update:
  • Pathway paving was completed on 5/27.
  • Concrete work near the Maas Pavilion will be complete on 5/29.
  • The pathway and pavilion are scheduled to be reopened and accessible by 5/30.
  • Road repairs are anticipated to start the week of 6/15 and are expected to be complete within one week. Traffic will be managed around the work zones, and all park amenities will remain accessible during the repairs

May 21, 2026 Update:
  • Pathway remains under construction and will be inaccessible over Memorial Day weekend.
  • Pathway paving is scheduled for May 26 and concrete work near the Maas Pavilion is scheduled for May 28.
  • The pathway and pavilion are scheduled to be reopened and accessible by May 30.
  • Road repairs are tentatively scheduled to start the week of June 1 and the Park and pavilions will remain open and accessible.

Why is this project being done?

  • Gallup Park Road south of the bridge needs urgent repair to maintain safe and functional use.
  • Completing these repairs now would provide an improved driving surface and extend the useful life of the road for several years.
  • This would allow time to plan and budget for a more comprehensive repaving project in the future, while also limiting further deterioration of the road, which could cause a future repaving project to be more expensive and extensive.
  • Portions of the Gallup Park Pathway around the Youth Fishing Pond are also in need of total replacement.

Work to be done

  • Isolated pavement repairs will be completed on Gallup Park Road south of the bridge.
  • Portions of the Gallup Park Pathway around the Youth Fishing Pond will be replaced.

Cost and funding source

  • Preliminary estimates anticipate a total project budget of about $230,000.
  • The funding source is the Park Maintenance and Capital Improvement Millage Fund.
  • Work on the Pathway and the Road will be staggered, with the Pathway replacement occurring first and then the Road repairs being completed next.
  • The following portions of the Gallup Park Pathway will be closed during the work: from the Maas Shelter through the portion of the Pathway east of the Youth Fishing Pond, including the access to the Pathway bridge north of the Pond.
  • When the Gallup Park Pathway is being replaced, the Maas and Fast shelters will be closed on weekdays and not available for reservation. During this time, Gallup Park Road will be completely accessible, as well as both parking lots south of Gallup Park bridge, and the playground.
  • Once Pathway work is completed, then repairs on Gallup Park Road will be done. During this time, sporadic closures of the Road will be required. These closures may result in the closure of one or both parking lots south of the Gallup Park Road bridge and would lead to the Youth Fishing Pond and nearby amenities being inaccessible from the road. The Pond and its amenities would still be accessible via the Pathway bridge north of the Pond and the B2B Trail.
  • The B2B Trail will remain open at all times during the work on the Gallup Park Pathway and Gallup Park Road
