Project Details

To commemorate the City of Ann Arbor’s Bicentennial, City Council renamed Southeast Area Park to Bicentennial Park on September 18, 2023.

Along with the renaming, there was a commitment to improve and add amenities to the park. The primary enhancement will be Ann Arbor's first universal-access splash pad, updated playground and restrooms, all of which will be solar-powered. In addition, park road, parking lots, and pathways are going to be repaved.

Additional items being considered are a new building and shelter to support park operations and programming, trail improvements and more.

During construction, use at Bicentennial Park will be limited. The ball fields, basketball court, and playground along Ellsworth Road will remain open throughout construction; however, the interior playground, restroom, and pavilion will be closed. For the safety of the public, we are asking all park visitors to follow posted signs and warnings to stay out of the construction zone.

Please refer to the timeline in the right panel for construction time period. For more information about Bicentennial Park, such as access and parking, please visit here.
