July 7, 2026 Project Update
Hello Arbordale and Sherwood Residents
Eminent Excavating will continue working on Sherwood St on Saturday, July 11. Once grading is complete on the west (left) side of Sherwood St, crews will begin installing storm sewer infrastructure on the east (right) side of the road. During this phase of construction, vehicles will be directed to travel on the newly graded west side of the roadway. Barrels and barricades will be placed to safely guide traffic through the work zone.
Below is a summary of the work and what is to come on Sherwood St, Sherwood Cir, and Arbordale St
Sherwood St / Sherwood Cir
The new water main has been installed and connected to all homes. Eminent has also completed most of the storm sewer infrastructure and is now preparing the roadway for paving. Current work includes grading the roadway as well as removing of concrete curb and gutter and select driveway approaches. Mid-to-late next week, Eminent will begin replacing the removed concrete sections.
Residents whose driveway approaches or curb and gutter in front of their driveway are being replaced will not have access to their driveways for seven (7) days while the concrete cures. During this time, residents may park on Arbordale St or other adjacent streets where parking is permitted. I do apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we continue work in the neighborhood. Eminent will notify affected residents at least 24 hours in advance before driveway access is temporarily restricted.
Paving on Sherwood St and Sherwood Cir is tentatively scheduled for the end of the week of July 20. An updated paving schedule will be provided next week.
Prior to paving, residents will receive a flyer with information regarding roadway access and paving-day expectations. Please plan for limited or no vehicle access to Sherwood St and Sherwood Cir for most of the day during paving operations. This will be the base paving phase, during which the first 2-inch layer of asphalt will be installed. The final 2-inch surface course will be placed at the end of the project in conjunction with paving on Arbordale St.
Arbordale St
Eminent has installed the new water main from Sherwood St to West Stadium Blvd. The water main is currently undergoing bacteriological testing. If testing is successful, crews will begin connecting the new water main to homes likely next week.
Residents affected by water service interruptions will receive orange door hangers at least 48 hours in advance of any scheduled water shutdowns.
In the coming weeks, the section of Arbordale St between Sherwood St and Pauline Blvd will be milled to allow continued water main installation and storm sewer construction.
Thank you for your patience as we make this improvement to the neighborhood utility system. Have a nice weekend everyone.

WATER MAIN SHUTDOWN NOTICE 6/24/2026
Hello Arbordale and Sherwood Residents
Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 24, Eminent Excavating will be tying in the Sherwood St and Sherwood Circle water main to the existing Arbordale water main at the north end of Sherwood St. Starting at 8 AM, residents outlined in the map shown below will be temporarily out of water for several hours while the tie in takes place. Affected residents should also have received an orange door hanger on Monday, June 22, with notification of the planned water main shutdown.

Thank you for your patience as we make this improvement to the neighborhood utility system.

June 12, 2026 Project Update
Hello Arbordale and Sherwood Residents
Eminent Excavating will be on Arbordale St installing water main on Saturday, June 13. The contractor will likely be done working in the afternoon due to aggregate source pits closing early on Saturdays. Pressure testing of the newly installed water main on Sherwood St and Sherwood Cir will also begin on Saturday, June 13.
Picture of the week: The City of Ann Arbor’s Public Works team fixes a water main break near the southern end of Sherwood St. As many of you are likely aware, the project experienced a water main break on Wednesday, June 10. Thank you to folks who were extremely patient and understanding during the emergency water main shutdown while the main was being repaired. Together, our Public Works team and Eminent Excavating dug around the damaged area to expose the broken water main. The vertical hose in the center is connected to a vacuum excavation (Vactor) truck, which was used to remove water, mud, and loose soil from the repair area. This helps keep the excavation safe and allows workers to clearly access the damaged pipe. After excavation, a new pipe is cut to size and installed to replace the broken one. Finally, the new pipe is tapped to reconnect the water service (the thin copper pipe in the bottom middle of the image) and the hole is backfilled.

A Reminder for What to Expect During Water Service Transfers
Eminent will excavate a trench from the existing water main to the new water main and connect each property's existing service line to the new main. During this work, residents will experience a brief interruption in water service lasting approximately one hour per property. Residents are encouraged to set aside drinking water in advance of the temporary service interruption.
Thank you for your patience as we make this improvement to the neighborhood utility system. Have a nice weekend everyone.

June 5, 2026 Project Update
Hello Arbordale and Sherwood Residents
Construction is in full swing!
Due to weather conditions, Eminent Excavating will not be installing water main on Saturday, June 6. However, the contractor will be on site tomorrow preparing water main pipe for installation on Arbordale Street in the coming weeks while testing of the new water main on Sherwood Street is taking place.

Picture of the week: Water main crew installing gate valve and well. Water valves are a critical piece of infrastructure for a city’s drinking water distribution system. Ann Arbor primarily uses resilient wedge gate valves that offer a low pressure drop making them ideal for water distribution. These valves also help keep our Public Works crews safe by allowing them to isolate sections of the system and control water flow during water main repairs.
Next week, Eminent will continue to install water main on Sherwood Street and Sherwood Circle. Water main testing will likely begin Wednesday, June 10, on Sherwood Street and Sherwood Circle. During testing, Eminent will be installing water main on the milled portion of Arbordale Street to help maintain the project schedule. Once testing has been successfully completed, they will return to Sherwood Street and Sherwood Circle to transfer water services.

May 22, 2026 Project Update
Hello Arbordale and Sherwood Residents
Construction is starting!
Today, our contractor, Eminent Excavating, placed temporary “No Parking” signs on Sherwood St., Sherwood Cir., and portions of Arbordale St. The parking restrictions will go into effect on Wednesday, May 27, at 7:00 a.m., so parking will not be impacted over the holiday weekend. Any vehicles parked in designated no-parking areas after 7:00 a.m. on May 27 will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Beginning on May 27, traffic control devices (barrels, signs and barricades) will be placed on Sherwood St and Sherwood Cir which officially marks the start of the temporary one-way conversion. Sherwood St will become one-way going north starting at the Arbordale St/ Sherwood St/Northwood St intersection to the Sherwood St/Arbordale St north intersection. Arbordale Street will remain a two-way street.
On May 28, Miller Bros. will mill out the pavement sections on Sherwood St and Sherwood Cir where the new water main will be placed. They will also be milling Arbordale St from Sherwood St to W Stadium Blvd in preparation for water main placement.
We appreciate your patience as we make this improvement to the neighborhood water system.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend.
