Project Overview

The City of Ann Arbor is making improvements to Allmendinger Park, including repaving existing pathways and adding new accessible connections in alignment with the Parks ADA Transition Plan.

During the Allmendinger Park playground renovation in 2023, it was identified that pathway renovation was needed throughout the park, as well as ADA accessibility improvements to align with the ADA Transition Plan.

Project Scope

The scope of work includes the following:

  • Paving the existing entrance and turnaround
  • Adding new, barrier-free parking
  • Renovating existing pathways
  • Constructing new pathways for accessible connections throughout the park
  • Installing accessible bleachers, grill and table
  • Installing fencing between the street and playground area

Funding Sources

Funding for this project is available in the approved FY 2025 Park Maintenance and Capital Improvement Millage budget and the Parks and Recreation fund balance.

The Parks Advisory Council recommended the construction contract for approval by City Council at their meeting on February 25, 2025. City Council approved the contract on March 17, 2025.

The following access restrictions will be in place during construction:

  • There will be limited access to the park while construction is underway. Please comply with posted signage, barriers or other noticed access restrictions.
  • The playground, ball fields, restrooms, and shelters are planned to remain open during construction but the pathways connecting to them will be closed at times, so access on a paved surface may be limited.
  • There will be limited vehicle access along Pauline due to a separate city project called the Pauline Watermain and Road Resurfacing project.
  • The entrance/turnaround will be closed off during construction. Visitors should park on nearby streets where parking is not restricted.
  • Noise and dust from construction work.
