Oct. 24, 2025

Project work continued last week with the completion of repairs to the concrete curb and gutter, driveway openings, curb ramps and sidewalk along the east side of South Seventh Street.

This week the contractor performed cold milling to remove the upper portion (~2 inches) of the existing asphalt pavement and made repairs to the underlying pavement remaining in place on North Seventh Street between West Huron Street and Willow Street, and on the east side of South Seventh Street between Lutz Avenue and West Huron Street. It also placed new hot mix asphalt to complete the resurfacing on the east side of South Seventh Street. Unfortunately, a portion of the work initially planned for North Seventh Street was delayed due to a utility issue encountered north of Willow Street. This has been addressed.

Next week the contractor plans to complete the remaining cold milling and pavement repair work on North Seventh Street and along the west side of South Seventh Street between Lutz Avenue and West Washington Street. It also plans to complete all the remaining paving. These operations are weather dependent, and each will occur as follows:

Project work continued last week on all of North Seventh Street and along the west side of South Seventh Street between Lutz Avenue and West Huron Street with the completion of concrete work including repairs to curb and gutter, driveway openings, curb ramps and sidewalk.

This week the contractor removed the utility structure covers within the pavement area on North Seventh Street and along the west side of South Seventh Street in preparation for resurfacing the roadway. In addition, it switched traffic over to the west side of South Seventh Street between Lutz Avenue and West Huron Street so it could work along the east side to remove the utility structure covers and complete the concrete curb and gutter, driveway openings, and curb ramp/sidewalk repairs.

Next week and into the following one the contractor will perform cold milling to remove the upper portion (~2 inches) of the existing asphalt pavement, make repairs to the underlying pavement remaining in place, and resurface the street with new hot mix asphalt. These operations are weather dependent, and each will occur as follows:

  • Milling – Monday, Oct. 20, 2025
  • Pavement Repairs – Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025

Sept. 26, 2025

The week of September 29, 2025, the Contractor, Cadillac Asphalt, will mobilize and place temporary traffic control devices, and set the road closures to begin Stage 1 construction on the entirety of North Seventh Street and on the west side of South Seventh Street between Lutz Avenue and West Huron Street (BL-94). Work will include repairs to select segments of concrete curb and gutter and storm drain inlets that are in poor condition, upgrades to curb ramps and directly adjacent sidewalk as necessary to achieve PROWAG compliance, cold milling to remove the upper portion (~2 inches) of the existing asphalt pavement, repairs to the underlying pavement remaining in place, and resurfacing with new hot mix asphalt.

During Stage 1 North Seventh Street will be closed in both directions between West Huron Street and Miller Avenue. Vehicular traffic will be detoured via West Huron Street (BL-94), Dexter Avenue, and North Maple Road. Local traffic access to properties will be maintained. On South Seventh Street, the southbound direction will be closed between West Huron Street (BL-94) and West Madison Street. Vehicles will be detoured east on West Huron Street (BL-94), south on South Ashely Street, east on West William Street, south on South Main Street, and west on West Madison Street to South Seventh Street. Northbound traffic within this segment will be maintained together with access to properties.

Pedestrian traffic will be maintained, with detours posted as necessary during sidewalk and ramp replacement work. Bicycle traffic will be detoured around the work zone using Princeton Avenue, Fifth Street, West Liberty Street, Eighth Street, West Huron Street (BL-94), Arbana Drive, and Arborview Boulevard.

  • Residents in the vicinity will experience noise and dust normally associated with construction activities.
  • North Seventh Street will be closed between West Huron Street and Miller Avenue during its stage of construction, with non-resident traffic being detoured. Local traffic access for residents will be maintained.
  • On-street parking along North Seventh Street will be temporarily restricted during construction.
  • South Seventh Street will be closed in the southbound direction between West Madison Street and West Huron Street during its stage of construction, with traffic being detoured. Northbound traffic and access for residents will be maintained.
  • Detour details will be available via the city’s road and lane closure page.
  • The contractor will maintain the construction work zone for emergency vehicle access.
  • Repair select storm drain inlets and segments of concrete curb and gutter that are in poor condition.
  • Upgrade non-compliant curb ramps to meet current Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG) and assist persons of all ages and abilities.
  • Remove the upper portion (~2 inches) of the existing asphalt pavement, repair the underlying pavement remaining in place, and resurface with new hot-mix asphalt.

Costs and funding source
